The Ranch

Welcome to Husky Ranch Lapland – our home, our workplace and the starting point for every adventure we share with our guests.

Located in the small village of Kurtakko, near Ylläs Fell, our ranch is home to nearly 40 Alaskan Huskies, as well as us, Juho and Hanna Ylipiessa, and our family. When you visit the ranch, you are not just joining a tour – you are stepping into our everyday life in the Arctic, more than 150 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle.

A Historic Lapland Homestead

Husky Ranch Lapland is built on the historic Tieva homestead, which was founded in the 1920s. The main house is one of the few buildings in the area that survived the war years untouched. Over the decades, the farm has been home to sheep, cows, horses and generations of hardworking people who made their living from the land.

Today, while the farm has taken on a new role as a husky ranch, its connection to nature, animals and traditional Lapland life remains as strong as ever.

Life with the Huskies

Our dogs are at the heart of everything we do. The ranch has been designed with their wellbeing in mind, featuring cosy kennels, individual dog houses and a large free-running area where they can play, socialize and relax when they are not out on the trails.

Life here follows the rhythm of the seasons. Throughout the year, we train, care for and spend time with our dogs, preparing for the adventures we share together. Whether you visit us in winter, summer or autumn, you will quickly discover that our huskies are not only hardworking athletes but also affectionate companions who love meeting people.

Wilderness at Our Doorstep

One of the things that makes our ranch truly special is its location. The vast wilderness begins right outside our front door. To the south-east, the next village is over 50 kilometres away.

The surrounding landscape is a beautiful mix of ancient taiga forests, winding streams, quiet lakes and expansive wetlands. Just a few kilometres from the ranch lies Teuravuoma, one of Europe's largest uninterrupted mire areas. Here, the open landscape stretches for miles, creating a sense of space and freedom that is becoming increasingly rare in today's world.

These wilderness areas provide the perfect setting for our husky adventures. They are also an incredible place to experience the magic of Lapland's nature – from colourful autumn landscapes and the midnight sun to star-filled winter nights and dancing Northern Lights.
